Step 1: meaning of the game
Texas Hold 'em is one of the most fun forms of poker. You can play with two up to ten players at a table. What is especially appealing to Texas Hold 'em is that you play against each other and not against the bank.
The game is as follows:
- Each player receives two cards, who only the player himself is allowed to see.
- Next comes first three open cards (the flop) on the table, which everyone can see.
- Then the fourth card (the turn).
- And finally, the last card (the river).
- When all the cards are on the table, you make with these cards and the two cards in your hand the highest poker hand possible. It is you own choice which of the seven cards you use.
Step 2: The hand values
HAND VALUES
Step 3: The development of the game
In Texas Hold 'em one dealer deals the cards. The dealer deals on behalf of each player, so everyone in his turn is the dealer. If it's your turn to deal, you get the dealer button (so you are the virtual dealer). In the casino, the croupier does this for you. On our site our software does this for you.
The game starts when the first two players after the dealer must make a forced bet, the so called small blind and big blind.
All players get two closed cards. After that all players, in turn, say if they want to join with the stakes of the big blind. This is the first betting round. What you can do during the betting round, we treat later in Step 4.
Now the first three open cards appear on the table (the flop). These cards are for all players and the second betting round follows.
Then a fourth open card (the turn) is turned, now with the third round of betting.
Then the fifth card (the river) is turned, with the fourth and final betting round.
Finally, the showdown follows: all players who are still in the game must throw their cards open and the player with the best combination wins the pot.
Step 4: Betting
You can play poker for money but also for points.
Each game is played for the pot. In the pot is the money the players bet every round. The winner of a game gets all the money in the pot. Because the first two players after the dealer must make a forced bet (small and big blind) there is always money in the pot.
After the bet of the first two players we go clockwise around to ask the other players if they join the bet of the big blind. When it is your turn, you have several options. We will put these in a row for you below:
- Fold: you throw your cards away. You are not playing in this game anymore, but it has cost you nothing too.
- Bet: if you bet the first, then we call it a bet.
- Call: If someone before you has already made a bet and you want to play along with him, you can bet the same amount, we call this call.
- Check: when nobody has bet and it is your turn, you can check. This actually says: "I am still in, but I don't bet.
- Raise: if someone has bet and you want to increase that bet, we call that a raise. If someone else wants to raise your raised bet we call that a re-raise.
- All in: When you bet all the chips that you have, we call that going All in.
Step 5: We play an example.
We are now playing a simple example of a round where all discussed steps come back. So pay attention!
We hope that you now have gained some insight into how the game works. If you start playing, we suggest you first practice on our practice tables. The more you practice, the more experience you gain and that is one of the key factors for a successful poker player. Because poker does not just depend on luck but also skills!
